Between February 1998 and July 1999 thirteen stentings of the carotid arteries were performed, in eleven patients. Three patients had a history of ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attacks (TIA), one female patient suffered ischemic stroke, and four patients TIA. The indications for stenting were atherosclerotic lesion of the carotid arteries (8 patients)), tortuosity and kinking of the carotid arteries (3 patients). No lethal outcomes or repeated ischemic disorders were recorded in the operated vascular pool during operation and over the follow-up (from 3 to 19 months). All the patients showed regression of the initial neurologic symptomatology. It has been demonstrated that the stenting of the carotid arteries is an acceptable method for their surgical treatment.

KEY WORDS: atherosclerotic lesion of the carotid arteries, stenting of carotid arteries.
