The first experience gained with the clinical use of the "UMBRELLA" cava filter (CF) designed by the authors is described. The filter is intended for the prevention of pulmonary artery thromboembolism (PATE) and treatment of acute thromboses of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and its tributaries. Between September J 997 and March 2000 the CF was received by 89 patients aged 15 to 86 у ears at risk for embologenic thromboses of the IVC system. The authors describe the CF design, endovascular techniques of its implantation and extrusion from the IVC. Outline the indications for С Fuse for permanent and temporary PA ТЕ prevention. Evaluate the results of the intervention, specify the conditions that determine a possibility of CF extrusion from the patient's body. Discuss the design philosophy of the С F allowing to extend the possibilities of PA ТЕ prevention.

KEY WORDS: cava filter, pulmonary artery thromboembolism, deep vein thromboses.
