The Swedish Vascular Registry (Swedvasc) was started in the southern health care region in 1987 and is covering the entire county from 1994. All vascular procedures (open and endovascular) are registered with 30 days and 1 year follow-up. By linkage to the national population registry survival can be obtain until the death of the patient. The proportion of endovascular interventions has increased over time. In the paper three large diagnostic groups are discussed (carotid artery surgery, treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysm and low extremity ischaemia) as well as one less common patient group (renovascular disease comprising about 1% of the total volume). The change in organization over time is discussed as some problems and advantages with the registry.
