The paper is concerned with initial experience we gained in the use of a combined method of correcting multifocal athero-sclerotic lesion of aortic arch branches. In particular, we employed a conventional surgical technique of restoring blood flow in the right internal carotid artery (ICA) combined with open intraoperative angioplasty of the brachiocephalic trunk (BCT). Between January 1995 and August 1996 three patients suffering from coexistent lesion of the BCT and the right ICA were operated on according to the above-indicated technique. Each patient was subjected to enderterectomy and autogenous vein patching of the right ICA coupled with intraoperative angioplasty of the BCT. All the patients were examined 6-12 months after operative treatment. They did not complain ofneurologic disorders. Control ultrasound and angiography did not reveal any signs ofrestenosis of the reconstructed parts. So, the combined intervention for multifocal atherosclerosis of aortic arch branches is one of the approaches to correction of the pathology under consideration and merits attention owing to its little traumatism as compared to the conventional surgical technique.
