The reported data including those supplied by the Medline sources on the problem of experimental and clinical grafting of the inferior vena cava (IVC) are analyzed. The results of replacement of the supra- and infrarenal portions of the IYC are different: thrombosis occurs more frequently in the infra- renal portion. Autografts (vein and pericardium) are recognized as optimal material. As for synthetic grafts, porous polytetrafluoroethylene is considered to be the best material. To refine the patency of synthetic grafts, a temporary arteriovenous fistula and antithrombotie drugs are applied.
KEY WORDS: inferior vena cava.
